Oak Creek wrestlers defend invitation­al title

Oak Creek’s wrestling team made itself at home at Brookfield Central again.

The Knights, who won the Lancer Invitation­al the past two seasons, reached the final in six weight classes Saturday and brought home four titles on the way to the championsh­ip of the 14-team event. Oak Creek finished with 384 points, 25 better than second-place Sparta.

Nolan Paar won one of those titles. After a first-round bye, he scored two pins and a technical fall before pinning Sparta’s Matt Fahning at 4 minutes 19 seconds to win the 170-pound title. Mitch Landgraf also had a dominant day, winning his first two matches at 120 by pin and later defeating Fort Atkinson’s Nolan Krause, 3-2, in the final.

Oak Creek’s other champions were Matt Berlin, who defeated Beaver Dam standout Devin De Los Angeles, 5-4, in the 126-pound final, and John Wright, who took the 195pound class with a 9-6 win over Sparta’s Austin Zwiefel.

Badger Invitation­al: Jared Krattiger stormed through the 182-pound bracket with nothing less than a major decision to lead Waterford to the title. The Wolverines, who won six weight classes, had 298.5 points, 181⁄2 better than secondplac­e Sun Prairie.

Craig Belcher Invite: In one of the marquee matches, Pewaukee’s Blaze Beltran defeated Milwaukee King’s Liam Arnold, 2-1, in the final round of the 285-pound round robin.

Beltran helped the Pirates win the title at Milwaukee Hamilton ahead of Valders, 434-402.

Van Duser Duals: Menomonee Falls went 5-0 at the ninth annual meet at South Milwaukee. Falls’ closest dual was a 54-30 victory over Kenosha Bradford.

DeForest Invite: Elkhorn, the area’s top-ranked team, got victories from Grant Tuesdale (113), Benji Peak (132) and Danny Stilling (138) on the way to winning the team title. BOYS BASKETBALL

Arrowhead 77, Homestead 72: Trevell Cunningham finished with 24 points in the victory.

Kimberly 52, Kettle Moraine 39: Nicklaus Dahman had 12 points for the Lasers, who fell to one of the state’s top teams.
