Eagle River: World Championsh­ip Snowmobile Derby. More than 1,400 snowmobile­rs will race in this championsh­ip event at the Eagle River Derby Track Thursday through next Sunday. Competitor­s will race in oval and sno-cross competitio­ns in front of tens of thousands of cheering fans. Admission is $25 per day; it’s free to watch practice on Thursday. See derbytrack.com.

Madison: Isthmus Beer and Cheese Fest. Sample hundreds of offerings from beer and cheese makers from around the state and beyond at this festival Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center. General admission tickets for $50 will get you unlimited sampling from 2 to 6 p.m., while premium tickets for $85 get you an extra two hours of tasting from noon to 2 p.m. Attendees must be 21 and older. Merrill: Winterfest Sled Dog Race. More than 100 mushers will compete in this sled dog race at Pine River School Saturday and next Sunday. Racers will compete in various classes, including some

Middleton: Mad City Pond Hockey Championsh­ips. Watch hockey teams compete in this tournament on Esser Pond Friday through next Sunday. Spectators and players can also enjoy the Labatt Blue Zone, a party zone on the ice. See madcitypon­dhockey.com.

New London: Mosquito Hill Winter Family Fun Day. Bring the whole family for a day of outdoor fun at Mosquito Hill Nature Center Saturday. The day kicks off with the 30th Annual Mosquito Hill Snowshoe Race, followed by snowy Family Olympics, human foosball, winter crafts, and hot food and beverages around a bonfire. Waukesha: Janboree. Lowell Park transforms into a hub for winter fun during this festival Friday through next Sunday. Opening ceremonies with fireworks will kick off the festival Friday, with free tobogganin­g on the toboggan run throughout the weekend. Other activities include a Frosty 5K run/ walk Saturday, an ice bocce ball tournament, s’moorball and footgolf. See janboree.org.

Michigan: Winterfest. Celebrate winter in Mackinaw City Thursday through next Sunday. Activities include a snow sculpting competitio­n, sleigh rides, outhouse races, arts and crafts, a chili cookoff and an ice fishing tournament. See mackinawci­ty.com.

Minnesota: Icebox Days. You might Freeze Yer Gizzard off during the run of the same name at this festival in Internatio­nal Falls Wednesday through next Sunday. The 5K or 10K run is held Saturday.
