NOTABLE Player of the week: Theresa Wichser, Brookfield Academy. Since the Knights’ 16-game Midwest Classic Conference winning streak was snapped last month by Heritage Christian, Wichser has led the team to conference victories over Living Word Lutheran and Lake Country Lutheran. The 56-45 victory over Living Word on Jan. 5 left it and Brookfield Academy as the only oneloss teams in the conference. Wichser had 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Two days later she hit eight of 14 shots for 25 points in a 54-26 triumph over Lake Country Lutheran. Team of the week: Milwaukee

Golda Meir. In its first year in the City Conference, Golda Meir is still undefeated in league play. Last Tuesday the team gained an early advantage in the Red Division race with a 70-68 victory over a Reagan squad that was previously undefeated in the league. Sophomore guard Destiny Hall finished with a season-high 19 points and Keyara Joy, a junior guard, added 16. The team’s top two scorers for the year, junior forward Arkasia Hull (15.8 ppg.) and junior guard/forward Amari Huffman (11.2 ppg.) had 12 and 13 points, respectively, against Reagan but bounced back with 21 and 20 points in an 84-32 victory over South Division on Friday.

Ranked: Milwaukee King made its debut in the national rankings Wednesday. The Generals are ranked No. 23 in the nation in the Maxpreps’ Xcellent 25. Grubor reaches milestone:

According to Falcons coach Keith Larson, the 5-8 senior forward is believed to be the first player in school history to reach the milestone. Grubor, who is averaging 19.5 points per game this season, entered the week with 1,002 points

Welcome sight: Brookfield Central was hit with one of the bigger losses of the year when senior Claire Haynes suffered a back injury in the second game of the season. The 5-10 forward took a big step in her recovery by returning to non-contact practice drills last Wednesday. Haynes’ was one of a handful of injuries or departures to Central players who were expected to contribute this season. The losses have helped turn a team expected to compete for the Greater Metro title into a squad that is 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the league. “Right now the goal is for her to be able to fully practice at the end of next week and start to play some minutes in game when we play DSHA on January 27th,” Central coach Mallory Liebl said in an email. “All of that is contingent on how she feels as she progresses into doing more. But so far her recovery has been going really well and she is ahead of schedule for a return!”

Century mark: Franklin’s victory over Kenosha Tremper on Friday was coach Tony Kathrens’ 100th as head coach. The Sabers are 100-38 in his five-plus seasons.
