A busy 2017 tournament golf schedule in Wisconsin just got busier.

The Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA, announced Tuesday that the Red Nose Day Walgreens Charity Championship will be held May 17-21 at the Geneva National Resort in Lake Geneva.

Sixty LPGA legends will play for a purse of $300,000 on the Gary Player Course. Tour members include LPGA Hall of Famers Nancy Lopez, Juli Inkster, Laura Davies, Patty Sheehan, Pat Bradley and Beth Daniel.

Madison native Sherri Steinhauer and Sheboygan native Martha Nause also compete on the Legends Tour, as does Becky Iverson, the director of golf at The Bridges Golf Course in Madison.

“We are thrilled to announce a new event in the greater Chicago area in partnership with Walgreens,” said Legends Tour CEO Jane Blalock. “Geneva National Resort is an outstanding destination and truly a championship venue.”

The tournament, previously held in Delray Beach, Fla., joins a jam-packed golf schedule highlighted by the first-ever U.S. Open in Wisconsin, June 15-18 at Erin Hills in the Town of Erin.

The next week, June 2325, 12-time PGA Tour winner Steve Stricker will host the second annual American Family Insurance Championship at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.

Stricker turns 50 on Feb. 23 and will be eligible to play in the PGA Tour Champions event for the first time. Fellow Madison resident Jerry Kelly turned 50 in November and also is expected to play. Kirk Triplett is the defending champion.

The Red Nose Day Walgreens Charity Championship gives Wisconsin events on all three domestic women’s tours in 2017.

The LPGA’s inaugural Thornberry Creek Classic will be held July 6-9 at Thornberry Creek at Oneida, where the top women players in the world will play for a purse of $2 million.

The Symetra Tour, the official developmental tour of the LPGA, visits Brown Deer Park Golf Course for the PHC Classic, Aug. 19-21.
