American Club among best wellness retreats
If you’re looking for a little rejuvenation during a bleak Wisconsin winter, The American Club in Kohler is an option. The resort was named one of the 15 best wellness retreats in the country by Conde Nast Traveler.
“The resort feels a little like an upscale college campus: the cluster of stately, stone and brick buildings includes posh, modern rooms; three in-house restaurants, and nine more within walking distance; and a separate spa and golf course, both accessible via a complimentary shuttle (though you can probably walk),” the magazine notes.
The American Club is the Midwest’s only Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond resort-hotel and is home to the Kohler Waters Spa, one of 47 Forbes Five-Star spas in the world. Other wellness options at the resort include yoga overlooking the 30-acre Wood Lake; River Wildlife, a 500acre wilderness preserve; and a dozen dining establishments with plenty of healthy options.
Not Fido-friendly
Apparently, man’s best friend won’t find a very friendly environment in Milwaukee, which Care.com ranked as one of the least friendly cities for dog walking.
Milwaukee ranked 26 out of 29 cities that were analyzed for dog walkability based on the average minutes per dog walk from Care.com jobs, the amount of dog parks per 10,000 residents and the city’s official WalkScore.com WalkScore.
San Francisco topped the list. Jacksonville, Fla., was ranked the worst for dog walking.
