Prep basketball:

Teams, players of the week

- BY MARK STEWART

NOTABLE Player of the week: Ben Seefeld, Arrowhead. The Warhawks maintained their grip on sole possession of first place in the Classic 8 Friday with an 80-67 victory over Muskego that was sparked by the 6-foot-4 senior forward. The Edgewood College recruit scored 24 points, two off his career high. He made 6 of 11 shots from the floor and was 12 of 14 from the free-throw line. Seefeld, who averages 18.2 points per game, also grabbed eight rebounds, five offensive, to help the team improve to 7-0 in the league, two games ahead of Muskego. “Ben has a great knack to score the basketball,” Arrowhead coach Craig Haase said. “He was particularly successful in Friday’s game at finishing around the basket and if not getting to the free-throw line.” Team of the week: HOPE Christian. Last week was a productive one for the Hawks, who handed Young Coggs Prep its first loss Tuesday and then maintained a share of the Midwest Classic lead with a 48-45 victory over Lake Country Lutheran on the road. Junior guard Tyrik Scott went 8 of 15 from three-point range Friday and finished with 26 points. Demetrius Lewis, a sophomore forward, added 11 points and six rebounds and hit two free throws with 18 seconds left to give HOPE its final margin of victory. Senior forward Courtney Good, the team’s top player, posted just four points and four rebounds against Lutheran, but led the charge against Young Coggs. He finished with 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. The victories set up HOPE (9-4, 6-1) for an important stretch this week. On Tuesday it plays at co-leader Brookfield Academy and then plays at Messmer on Thursday. “Our school is only 13 years old and with the way the conference sits right now, the next 96 hours are probably the most important in our school’s short, little basketball history,” HOPE coach Christian Arvold said Monday.

Milestone reached: Racine Case senior Koreen Ozier scored his 1,000th point during a 32-point effort in a 60-55 victory over Milwaukee South on Saturday. The 6-0 guard, who is averaging 32 points per game, has 1,028 points.

Lewis clears mark: Milwaukee Riverside senior wing Terrence Lewis recently scored 1,500 points. The Iowa State recruit, who is averaging 28.8 points per game, entered the week with 1,577 points.

Moving up: The third-annual City Review basketball showcase makes its debut at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Friday. The first two years the event was held at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena, which was a nice fit for an event that drew about 3,000 last year. Milwaukee Public Schools athletic director Bill Molbeck sought to have the event at the Arena again this year, but the Friday slotted for the event wasn’t available. When that happened last year, MPS moved its games to Wednesday. This year, MPS wanted to keep the games on Friday and turned to the Bradley Center. “They worked with us on the price so it was manageable for us to do that,” Molbeck said. “It’s going to be really nice for those kids to be able to play where the Bucks and Marquette play, in a big pro arena.”

COMING UP Wauwatosa East at Brookfield Central, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday: Tosa East has quietly played its way into a second-place tie in the Greater Metro. A win on the road could create a three-way tie for first between it, Central and Menomonee Falls. Greendale Martin Luther at Racine Prairie, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday: Prairie’s two-point victory over the Spartans Dec. 10 is all that separates first and second in the Metro Classic. HOPE Christian at Brookfield Academy, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday:
