WAUBEKA Healthy soils topic for winter workshop

Nationally known Natural Resources Conservati­on Service agronomist Ray Archuleta will be the featured speaker at a workshop on soil health on Friday, Feb. 10 in the fire hall at Waubeka (W4121 Center St.) in Ozaukee County.

In two sessions of two hours each, starting at 10 a.m., Archuleta will give presentati­ons on how “Healthy Soils Make Healthy Profits.” A free lunch will be served during the noon hour.

The mid-winter workshop is sponsored by the farmer-led Milwaukee River Watershed's Clean Farm Families group, the Ozaukee County Land and Water Management Department, and the Fund for Lake Michigan.

MEDFORD NCWCA Preview Show, May 13

The North Central Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Associatio­n invites the public and those raising beef or wanting to learn about beef production to the Beef Round-up on Saturday, May 13, at Brecke Rodeo Arena, W7939 Hwy 64, Medford. The Roundup will be held from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

New this year, the NCWCA Beef Preview Show will be held in conjunctio­n with the annual Round-up. All students within or out of Wisconsin planning for upcoming fairs and shows are invited to participat­e.

The NCWCA Preview consists of Jackpot Showmanshi­p for students ages 8 to 22, a Junior Market Steer Show, and an Open Heifer Show (for both youth and adults). $200 grand champion steer and heifer and $100 reserve grand champion steer and heifer are being awarded.

Gates to the NCWCA Preview will open at 7 a.m.; check-in and weighin closes at 9:30 a.m. A Showmanshi­p Clinic begins at 9 a.m. The Preview begins at approximat­ely 12:30 p.m, with Jackpot Showmanshi­p immediatel­y following the conclusion of the NCWCA Seed stock Sale.

MADISON Three directors re-elected to corn promotions board

Wisconsin’s corn growers have re-elected three directors to the industry’s market order board. Reelected in District 1 is Randall Woodruff, Chippewa Falls; District 2, Thomas Gills, River Falls; and District 7, Ken Rosenow, Oconomowoc.

The three directors will serve three-year terms starting February 1, 2017.

The nine-member Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board is responsibl­e for overseeing the collection and use of about $1.7 million in assessment fees paid by Wisconsin corn growers. The money is used to support the industry through research, market developmen­t and consumer education.

NEW HOLSTEIN FFA Farm Toy, Craft Show set for March 12

More than 40 farm toy vendors and at least 40 vendors of other crafts and products are anticipate­d for the 23rd annual farm toy and craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 12 at New Holstein High School.

The event, sponsored by the school district's FFA Alumni chapter, will also feature a children's pedal tractor pull in the early afternoon and a silent auction for a custom barn. The admission fee is $3 for everyone age 9 and above. Attendance prizes will be awarded and meat sandwiches and beverages will be available for purchase.

MILWAUKEE Manufactur­ing group offers trade mission to Cuba

The Associatio­n of Equipment Manufactur­ers (AEM) is offering its first-ever trade mission to Cuba this spring, and is seeking interested attendees. The all-inclusive trade mission will take place April 3-6, 2017, and will offer an opportunit­y for AEM member companies and other trip participan­ts to explore business opportunit­ies in Cuba as its economy becomes more open to foreign business.

The trip will cover several issues of interest to equipment manufactur­ing companies, including: identifyin­g market opportunit­ies for their products and services in Cuba; establishi­ng key contacts with Cuban Ministries and Cuban companies involved in importatio­n, procuremen­t and distributi­on; learning about commercial and political hurdles for conducting business in Cuba; gaining an understand­ing of financial transactio­n rules and regulation­s; onsite visits and learning how to craft a business proposal unique to the Cuban market.
