River Falls keeps soaring

UW-River Falls reduced its magic number to clinch at least a share of the WIAC regular-season title to two games on Wednesday as the Falcons used a big second half to pull out a 73-59 victory at home over UW-La Crosse.

The fourth-ranked Falcons (19-1, 9-0 conference), who have a threegame lead with five remaining, were ahead by just two points at 44-42, when they went on a 14-2 run against the Eagles (1010, 2-7).

UW-Stevens Point 69, UW-Oshkosh 68: The Pointers (10-9, 4-5 WIAC) held off late surge by the host Pointers (12-8, 5-4), winning on the road behind 19 points from Zack Goedeke and 17 from Ethan Bublitz.

UW-Eau Claire 95, UWStout 91: The Blugolds (15-5, 5-4 WIAC) built a 10point lead with 2:17 remaining and then warded off a late surge to strike down the Blue Devils (13-7, 4-5) in Menomonie.

UW-Whitewater 68, UW-Plattevill­e 64: Demetrius Woodley and Chris Jones spearheade­d a 14-7 run over the final 4:15 to help the Warhawks (17-3, 6-3 WIAC) rally past the host Pioneers (8-12, 1-8).

North Central 82, Carroll 72: The Cardinals (12-8, 6-5 CCIW) held a 17-3 advantage in secondchan­ce points in their victory over the Pioneers (11-9, 6-5) in Naperville, Ill.

Carthage 93, Elmhurst 91 (OT): Drew Joiner hit a tying three-pointer with 8 seconds remaining for the Red Men (14-6, 7-4 CCIW), then stole the inbounds pass which led to Brad Kruse’s winning free throws with 3 seconds left against the host Bluejays (6-14, 2-9).
