Broadway shows at Marcus include ‘Waitress,’ ‘Rent’
More shows include ‘Waitress,’ ‘School of Rock,’ ‘Les Miz’
The next season of Broadway shows at the Marcus Center will transport audiences to France, twice, and for dessert visit a little joint with great pie.
The 2017-’18 season, announced Monday evening, will include both “Les Misérables” and the new musical “An American in Paris,” as well as “Waitress,” the show adapted from the late Adrienne Shelly’s movie.
Here’s a list of the Associated Bank Broadway at the Marcus Center’s 2017-’18 shows. All will take place at the Marcus Center’s Uihlein Hall, 929 N. Water St.:
“Rent,” Oct. 3-8. The 20th anniversary tour of the late Jonathan Larson’s rock musical, loosely based on Puccini’s “La Bohème” and set in New York in the early years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
“School of Rock,” Nov. 21-26. Andrew Lloyd Webber composed a batch of songs for this adaptation of the movie about a cash-strapped rocker who teaches kids how to stick it to the man.
“Waitress,” Jan. 2-7. Based on the movie starring Keri Russell as a small-town server whose extraordinary pies may be her ticket out of unhappiness. Sara Bareilles wrote the songs.
“Finding Neverland,” Feb. 20-25. This musical offers the backstory of how J.M. Barrie came to create Peter Pan.
“Les Misérables,” March 27-April 1, 2018. Once again, the relentless Javert will pursue Valjean through revolutionary Paris in the Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg musical.
“A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder,” May 1-6, 2018. Just scraping by and too poor for the woman he yearns for, a fellow ninth in line to inherit an earldom starts eliminating the competition in this musical comedy.
“An American in Paris,” June 26-July 1, 2018. Based on the 1951 film starring Gene Kelly, this musical is packed with songs by George and Ira Gershwin, including “I Got Rhythm” and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me.”
Theatergoers can choose six-show packages or a seven-show package that adds “Les Misérables.” Subscriptions are on sale now through the Marcus Center. Call (414) 273-2787 or visit marcuscenter.org.
