FLASH FORWARD Art blooms at museum again

- — Sarah Hauer WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK

Tree buds and flower blossoms are sprouting — at least at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Enjoy 40 floral installations inspired by art in the museum’s collection during its annual Art in Bloom event starting Thursday.

Experts in gardening and floral design created the works found throughout the museum. It’s not just flowers. There’s also live music and a marketplace. An after-hours floral fashion show, Beauty in Bloom, displays gowns and accessories crafted entirely from flowers and foliage. Professional florists compete Saturday for the Iron Designer 2017 title in a challenge to create a unique display using the same materials and guidelines.

Seminar highlights include a lecture about the farm-to-table social movement, a hands-on workshop about container gardens, a presentation on how to grow your own groceries and a workshop on creating paper flowers.

Art in Bloom runs Thursday to Sunday at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Admission is $15, $5 for members. Tickets can be purchased online at mam.org/bloom.
