U.S. Bank’s Bertha set to retire

- PAUL GORES

Bill Bertha, U.S. Bank’s Wisconsin market president since 2005, is retiring and will be succeeded by Tom Richtman, the bank said Thursday. Bertha is scheduled to retire in June. “We congratulate Bill on his exceptional career at U.S. Bank and for his business and community leadership in Wisconsin,” Elliot Jaffee, head of commercial banking at U.S. Bank, said in a statement. “Bill has been a strong advocate of our core values, including putting people first. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy.”

Under Bertha’s leadership in Wisconsin, U.S. Bank gained market share and significantly grew its presence in the important region, the bank said.

Prior to U.S. Bank, Bertha was a managing director at both Deutsche Bank and Dean Witter Reynolds. He has served on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs, the Greater Milwaukee Committee and the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business.

Richtman has been with U.S. Bank, dedicated to the Wisconsin market, for more than 33 years. In his current role, he serves as a relationship manager and team leader in commercial banking. Richtman also held roles in large corporate banking and business banking groups within U.S. Bank.

He is on the board of directors at Goodwill Industries of Southeast Wisconsin and the Coalition for Children, Youth and Families.

U.S. Bank employs more than 5,400 people in Wisconsin and has almost 130 branches in the market.
