Greenfield school district plans workplace clinic

- GUY BOULTON

The School District of Greenfield plans to open a workplace clinic this fall that will be operated and staffed by Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Workforce Health.

The clinic will provide health services at no charge to employees and their spouses and dependent children who are on the school district’s health plan. The clinic, which will be open 20 hours a week, will be staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Workplace clinics have become increasingly common throughout the Milwaukee area as well as the state and country as employers look for ways to control the cost of providing health benefits.

The potential savings can range from the cost of providing care at a workplace clinic compared with other settings to the long-term savings from managing chronic diseases, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

The West Bend School District has had a clinic for more than four years. And Waukesha County, the City of Waukesha and the School District of Waukesha opened a clinic in 2014 for employees, their families and retirees.

Northwestern Mutual, Kohl’s and MillerCoors are among the companies in the Milwaukee area with workplace clinics.

Froedtert Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin also operate and staff workplace clinics for Associated BancCorp., Hatco Corp., Palermo Villa Inc., the City of Milwaukee and the City of Wauwatosa.

The Greenfield clinic will be in the high school at 4850 S. 60th St.

The clinic will be staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
