THREE THINGS TO WATCH Twice as nice? Marquette won its first-ever WIAA Division 1 state title last year. Don’t be surprised if the Hilltoppers make it two straight this spring. Senior Harrison Ott, a Vanderbilt recruit, is the front-runner for state player of the year honors. Standouts Jack Blair and Steven Butler, who both earned honorable mention all-state honors in 2016, also return. Marquette ended years of postseason frustration last year. Now, the good times should keep on rolling. Reclaiming the crown: Arrowhead won the Division 1 title in 2015 and has captured two championships since 2012. The Warhawks should be poised to make another run at the title come June. Senior Bennett Knapek was a first-team all-state player last year, while junior Alex Yost was a third-team all-state selection. Arrowhead also adds highly-touted freshman Piercen Hunt to the mix. “Our top players have hit balls and taken lessons all winter and hope to fulfill their potential,” Arrowhead coach Greg Budzien said. “Great bunch of guys, who are hungry!” Can the Crusaders reload?Catholic Memorial has won three of the last four Division 2 state titles, including last year’s championship. Winning a fourth title in five years will be a daunting task. Catholic Memorial lost its top three golfers to graduation but will build around honorable mention all-state golfer Josh Rowinski. The question is can enough others step up?
