Mukwonago boys, Waukesha West girls prevail

When it came to the top boys and girls track teams in the Classic 8 Conference, Saturday was about repeat performanc­es.

The Mukwonago boys and Waukesha West girls, winners of the league’s indoor titles earlier this month, moved a step closer to the triple crown of titles by winning the league’s relay meets.

Mukwonago nipped Arrowhead, 111-108, at Waukesha North. The West girls edged Arrowhead, 106-99, at Kettle Moraine.

Senior Becca Langer set the tone for West. She opened the meet by winIan ning the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes 20.70 seconds. Four events later she anchored the team’s 1,600 sprint medley relay to victory in 4:12.08.

West’s other victories came in the 3,200 and 1,600 relays. Brooke Lytle anchored both those teams, which posted times of 10:12.04 and 4:04.16.

Meanwhile at Waukesha North, Mukwonago won five events, including the 400 and 800 relays with times of 43.97 and 1:31.59. The team also got wins from Zach Dybul in the high jump (6 feet 4 inches), Alec Benzinger in the discus (152-4) and Nadolski in the 1,600 (4:30.10).

Viking Invitation­al: Andrew Lemmenes won three events for host Wisconsin Lutheran, while Whitefish Bay took the boys team title.

Lemmenes won the 110 high hurdles (15.62) and 300 hurdles (41.14) and cleared 13-0 to win the pole vault. Bay’s Evan Murray won the 100 in 11.03, Rhys Koch took the 800 in 1:59.31 and Michael Kirchendol­l won the triple jump with a mark of 44-0.

In the girls meet, Brookfield Central junior Lexi Romero took the 100 (12.62) and triple jump (36-2) and was second in the 200 (26.03) to lead the Lancers to the team title. University School’s Davis Collison, who won the 200 in 26.02 and 400 in 58.97, was the only other girls double winner.

Randy Lyons Invite: Franklin swept the boys and girls titles at Whitewater.

The boys, who finished with 139 points, 37 ahead of second-place Fort Atkinson, got victories from Charles Rydeski in the 200 (23.31), Michael Riel in the 3,200 (10:23.54), Michael Henning in the 110 high hurdles (15.71) and Dawson Ziegler in the pole vault (13-5).

The girls, who edged Waterford, 123-122, got victories from Jolene Mantoan in the 300 hurdles (52.28), Janel Sweet in the pole vault (9-6) and Haley Pyan in the triple jump (34-2). BOYS GOLF Crusader Invite: It was a great day to be a Warhawk at Broadlands.

Arrowhead won the 19team meet with a score of 287, three strokes better than Marquette. Bennett Knapek led the charge with a 3-under 69 that earned him medalist honors. He was two strokes better than Pewaukee’s Andrew Clement.
