Defending the indefensible
Again, columnist Christian Schneider comes to the defense of Rebecca Bradley for her indefensible views she stated as a Marquette University student (“Dems flailing as race nears,” Crossroads, April 23).
He labels and characterizes her views at that time as “controversial.” There is nothing controversial about the views she expounded on attacking gays and people with HIV.
Her positions were nothing but vicious, hateful, repugnant and morally reprehensible. Not controversial, as Schneider states when she was in a state of despondency over the election of Bill Clinton. Why Schneider continues to make excuses for her and apologize for her is beyond me.
I can only think that, given her alleged change of heart, Schneider only continues to attempt to score ideological political points.
He offers nothing in his op-ed piece that I would characterize as an articulation of the pros and cons of conservatism vs. liberal/progressive positions.
Schneider’s only consistent argument, in many of his columns, on behalf of the value of conservatism is bashing liberals/progressives. Hardly a strong defense for conservatism.
