The metro Milwaukee area’s first free-standing Free People store, an apparel and accessories retailer focused on young women, opened Friday, joining a growing list of businesses at the The Corners of Brookfield.

Free People, which is owned by Philadelphiabased Urban Outfitters Inc., primarily offers private label branded merchandise targeted to women ages 25 to 30. Merchandise includes casual women’s apparel, intimates, shoes, activewear, accessories, beauty and wellness items, home products and gifts.

Free People was the second new business to open this week at The Corners, a development featuring more than 400,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space along with 244 luxury apartments. A 35,000-square-foot Sendik’s Food Market opened Sunday, and its grand opening festivities are planned for this weekend.

The Corners, which is anchored by Wisconsin’s first Von Maur department store, is located on W. Blue Mound Road just east of S. Barker Road in the Town of Brookfield.

Von Maur opened this month, as did a Kendra Scott jewelry and décor location, Evereve, Francesca’s, J. Jill, Scout & Molly’s, Twigs, Anthony Vince Nail Spa and BelAir Cantina.

Other retailers or restaurants announced but yet to open include: Anthropologie, Arhaus, Café Hollander, Grimaldi’s, L.L. Bean, Lululemon, Paper Source and Wisconsin Vision. Anthropologie also is owned by Urban Outfitters Inc.

L.L.Bean is set for a June 30 launch. The other opening dates are not yet set, but all are expected to open this spring or summer, said The Corners spokeswoman Kris Naidl.
