Zesty Orange, Calendula and Lemon Balm Fizzy Bath Truffles

-

The book “Herbs for Flavor, Health and Natural Beauty” has an amazing array of herb-filled recipes, but also a crafting chapter that features how-tos on candles, lip balm, sugar scrub and more.

Here’s a recipe for bath bombs that will bubble and fizz and scent your bath with citrus. Please wear gloves throughout the process. Mountainroseherbs.com is a good source for essential oils, dried herbs and flowers.

Makes 24

2 1⁄2 cups baking soda 1 1⁄4 cups citric acid 1⁄4 cup cocoa butter 1⁄4 cup shea butter

5 drops sweet orange essential oil (optional) 5 drops lemon essential oil (optional)

2 tablespoons orange zest

2 tablespoons dried lemon balm

2 tablespoons dried calendula blossoms

Wear gloves while handling ingredients. In a large bowl, mix baking soda and citric acid.

In a microwave-safe container, heat cocoa butter and shea butter in microwave in 10-second increments, stirring in between, until melted. Melted oils will be very hot; handle carefully.

If using, add essential oils to melted butters. Slowly pour over baking soda mixture. Add orange zest, lemon balm and calendula blossoms and mix well with your gloved hands. Firmly pack into small molds or a mini muffin tin. Let dry for 24 hours and then carefully turn out.
