Another Horizon title for Novacek

Five in a row. That’s the number of consecutiv­e Horizon League titles Kate Novacek now has in the 400 meters.

Novacek won her third straight league outdoor title Sunday during the final day of the Horizon League track and field championsh­ips in Youngstown, Ohio.

The women’s team finished third in the meet overall with 132.5 points. The men’s team also took third place with 181 points.

The men’s 400-meter relay team of Nate Pozolinski, Konner Fierek, Taylor Koss and Nick Stugelmeye­r took home a fifth straight school title in the event with a time of 41.38 seconds

Pozolinski was also sixthousan­dths of a second away from upsetting Youngstown State’s Chad Zallow in the 110-meter hurdles final.

Pozolinski, ranked 14th in the event nationally, nearly shocked Zallow — who has the top time in the event in the NCAA this season at 13.37 seconds. Sunday, he barely outkicked Pozolinski’s 13.788 at the tape, finishing with a 13.782.

Jason Hanson also took first place in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet 101⁄4 inches.

BASEBALL

UWM 8, Northern Kentucky 1: Designated hitter Mike Jordahl had tghee hits and four RBI, leading the Panthers (1927, 9-14 Horizon League) to their second straight easy victory over the Norse. Starter Alex Fischer struck out seven and allowed just two hits in seven scoreless innings at Henry Aaron Field.

SOFTBALL

Wisconsin 5, Maryland 0: The visiting Badgers (32-14, 11-11 Big Ten) scored four runs on four hits in the first inning and ended the regular season on a high note. UW pitchers Kaitlyn Menz and Kirsten Stevens combined on a four-hitter
