DaVita buys Purity Dialysis

- GUY BOULTON

DaVita Kidney Care, a division of DaVita Inc., said Monday that it has bought Purity Dialysis, which operates 10 dialysis centers in southeastern Wisconsin.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

DaVita Kidney Care operated or provided administrative services at 2,382 outpatient dialysis centers in the United States, serving approximately 189,400 patients, as of March 31.

The company also provides acute inpatient dialysis services in about 900 hospitals and related laboratory services throughout the U.S. And its DaVita Medical Group manages and operates medical groups and affiliated physician networks in California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Washington.

DaVita, which had 43 centers in Wisconsin at the end of last year, had revenue of $14.7 billion last year.

Purity Dialysis’ centers are in Brookfield, Fort Atkinson, Germantown, Menomonee Falls, Mukwonago, Oconomowoc, Watertown and Waukesha.

It also provides in-home peritoneal dialysis training. Peritoneal dialysis, an option for patients who are healthier, can be done at home instead of going to a dialysis center three times a week.

Purity Dialysis could not be immediately reached for comment Monday.

An estimated 477,000 people had end-stage renal disease in the U.S. in 2014, according to DaVita. Medicare has covered end-stage renal disease regardless of age or financial circumstance since 1972.
