Whitewater turns back St. Norbert

Heath Renz allowed one run and struck out five in four innings to improve to a perfect 9-0 as UW-Whitewater downed visiting St. Norbert, 4-2, in the NCAA Division III Championsh­ip Midwest Regional on Thursday.

Blake Fleischman and Steve Chamberlai­n had RBI doubles as Whitewater took a 3-0 lead in the first.

Robbie Dombrowski homered for the Green Knights.

The Warhawks (36-7), the regional’s top seed, remains in the winner’s bracket and will face fifth-seeded UW-La Crosse on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

UW-La Crosse 11, St. Scholastic­a 2: Joel Zyhowski drove in three runs as the Eagles routed the Saints in the opener at Whitewater’s James B. Miller Stadium.

La Crosse (29-17) tallied six runs on five hits and two St. Scholastic­a errors in the top of the sixth to take a 7-2 lead. Zyhowski’s two-run single with two outs broke the game open.

Caleb Boushley (9-2) earned the victory for the Eagles. He struck out seven in eight innings.

The Saints (32-9) will play the Green Knights (30-12) at 10 a.m. Friday.

Valparaiso 5, UW-Milwaukee 4: Reliever Brandon Parr walked Christian Barczi with the bases loaded in the ninth, and the Panthers fell to the host Crusaders at Emory G. Bauer Field.

Daulton Varsho homered for the Panthers (22-31, 10-18 Horizon League).
