NOTABLE Players of the week: Molly Howe and Allie Versluvs, Lake Country Lutheran. The Lightning clinched its second straight Midwest Classic title with a 17-8 victory over St. Francis last Tuesday. The victory avenged a 16-15 loss to the Mariners in the previous week. In the rematch, Lutheran broke open a 6-5 game with six runs in the fifth and five in the sixth. Versluvs finished with five runs batted in and went 3 for 5. Howe, the team’s leading hitter this season, went 4 for 5 with five runs and also was the pitcher of record, striking out nine in the complete-game effort. Team of the week: Watertown. This was a fitting end for Watertown and the Wisconsin Little Ten. The Goslings, winners of 11 of the last 12 league titles, closed the season with a 5-3 victory over secondplac­e Beaver Dam to win the last league title before the conference disappears due to realignmen­t. The Goslings, which scored a double-header sweep of West Bend West on Tuesday, finished 14-0 in the conference, shutting out four opponents and five times scoring 10 runs or more. Against second-place Beaver Dam, sophomore Lauren Harshbarge­r drove in two runs with a first-inning doubles. Senior Katie Crogan scored a double steal in the fourth to push the lead to 3-0. She would later drive in the team’s fourth run and score the fifth on a single by Harshbarge­r.
