PREP SALUTES
BASEBALL Jacob Bolwerk, Living Word Lutheran:
The junior pitcher/shortstop was named the Midwest Classic player of the year after leading his team to a 13-3 record and second-place finish in the league. Bolwerk is hitting .369 with 20 RBI. He also is 5-2 on the mound with a 2.00 earned run average. He struck out seven in five innings in a 7-1 victory over Cambria-Friesland in a WIAA regional game Thursday.
BOYS GOLF Matt Polivka, Muskego:
The Warriors senior shot a 2-over 74 to tie for the low round at the Classic 8 Conference meet May 17 at Naga-Waukee. He was named the league’s player of the year and then shot a 4-over 75 at Brown Deer Golf Course to finish second overall and help his team win the regional title.
SOFTBALL AJ Klostermann and Jacky Holloway, Waukesha West:
Waukesha West won its first regional title since 2009 by defeating West Allis Central, 12-0, on Thursday and West Allis Hale, 7-1, Friday. Klostermann went 4 for 7 with five RBI in the games. Against Hale, she hit a grand slam. Holloway, meanwhile, won both contests, striking eight against Central and nine against Hale. The victories improved the Wolverines, who tied for second in the Classic 8, to 13-5 overall.
GIRLS SOCCER Haddie Carlson, Lake Country Lutheran/University Lake Co-op:
The senior forward/midfielder came up big in two matches this week. In a showdown of state-ranked Division 4 teams on Monday, she scored four times to lead the fourthranked Lightning to a 5-2 victory over eighth-ranked Racine St. Catherine’s. She added four more goals Friday in a 4-2 win over Hartford, a Division 1 school that finished second in the Wisconsin Little Ten.
BOYS TENNIS Jaden Aranda, Nicolet:
The sophomore defended his North Shore Conference title at No. 1 singles earlier this month and then won three matches at the sub-sectional and sectional to capture the No. 1 singles title of the Marquette Sectional. Aranda is 27-2 and seeded fourth in the Division 1 state tournament.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD Jared Jones, Kettle Moraine:
The senior pole vaulter posted one of the most impressive marks of the past week when he cleared 15 feet, 7 inches at the West Allis Central Sectional to take over the top spot on the wisconsintrackonline.com state honor roll. Earlier in the week, he won the regional title at Brookfield Central by clearing 14-0. His 15-7 height ranks 67th in the nation according to dyestat.com.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD Jaden O’Brien, Divine Savior Holy Angels:
The Dashers freshman improved on her state-best time in the 300-meter low hurdles at the West Allis Central Sectional Thursday with a time of 44.09 seconds. That makes her the top qualifier for in the Division 1 state meet that begins Friday in La Crosse. She also helped DSHA qualify in the 400 and 800 relays.
