Trump to campaign for Walker at June 13 event

President Donald Trump will come to southeastern Wisconsin later this month to headline a fundraiser for Gov. Scott Walker.

The event will be held June 13 in the evening, but the location hasn’t been set.

Although no public event has yet been scheduled, it’s customary for a president to couple a fundraiser with an official appearance.

In April, Trump visited tool manufacturer Snap-on Inc. in Kenosha, where he signed a “Buy American, Hire American” executive order.

In 2016, Trump won in Wisconsin, becoming the first GOP presidential candidate to claim the state’s electoral votes since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Walker has all but announced his plans to run for a third term next year but is putting off a formal entry into the race until after the state budget is approved later this summer.

“I’m thrilled that as part of his ongoing and repeated visits across the Midwest, President Trump will be returning to Wisconsin — and I appreciate him showing his support for our bold conservative reforms while he’s here,” Walker said in a campaign statement.

In 2014, Trump gave the maximum $10,000 donation to Walker’s campaign.

But the two Republican leaders haven’t always been so chummy.

When they were both running for president in 2015, Trump was highly critical of Walker’s reforms in the state. The first-term president also claimed credit for knocking the second-term governor out of the GOP primary, saying, “I sent him packing like a little boy.”

Walker was reluctant to endorse Trump until after the Wisconsin 2016 presidential primary in April 2016.
