It’s going to be a tough call for beer fans on July 22.

That day, Deschutes Brewing will park its 400-foot traveling Street Pub at Old World 3rd St. and Kilbourn Ave. for a oneday-only block party. That puts the festival only a few blocks from the well-established Milwaukee Firkin Fest in Cathedral Square Park.

Deschutes Brewery, a highly rated Oregon-based brewer, bypassed Chicago this year to make Milwaukee one of five stops nationally.

The mobile bar will touch down at Pere Marquette Park, 900 N. Plankinton Ave., the Milwaukee County Historical Society, 910 N. Old World 3rd St., and Kilbourn Ave., to pour beers and host bands and local chefs. Event time is 2 to 10 p.m. “We want to spread the love around,” said Joey Pleich, field marketing manager for Deschutes.

The pub will serve from 60 taps, with 44 featuring Deschutes beers — everything from the popular Black Butte Porter to specialty reserve releases such as The Abyss. The Street Pub has eight different bars.

Pleich also promises guest taps for local breweries.

Local chefs also will get to showcase their skills cooking with beer at the demonstration kitchen.

The plan calls for stages with regional and local acts in partnership with 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, Pleich said.

In addition, Deschutes teamed up with Hydro Flask, makers of tumblers, to bring a hydration station made by Black Dog Salvage from the DIY Network’s “Salvage Dawgs.”

Donations will be taken for the chance to play brew pong for prizes. Humm Kombucha’s Creation Station will offer an art station and activities for all ages. And KEEN Footwear will host an activism center and lounge with a photo booth and games such as big wheel races and disc golf.

Look for local art to be on display, along with a kids’ zone for interactive children’s activities.

The event is free. Beers will be available by token; a $5 token buys one 14ounce beer.

Deschutes will offer $50 VIP tickets that include two beer tokens, a Hydro Flask True Pint, rare-barrel tastings with a Deschutes brewer, access to the VIP lounge inside the Historical Society Building, catering from the Deschutes executive chef and other local culinary experts, Humm Kombucha on tap and more.

Proceeds benefit the Hunger Task Force and the Westown Association.
