3 rescued after boat flips over in lake

A 17-foot boat with three people on board capsized in Lake Michigan near Port Washington Sunday morning.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office’s rescue boat, the Port Washington Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Wisconsin DNR were sent out to the capsized boat around 8:40 a.m., according to a release from Ozaukee County Emergency Management. The boat was 2.5 miles east of the Port Washington Marina.

The Fire Department’s boat crew rescued the three people, who weren’t wearing life jackets, according to the release. The three were transferre­d to the Sheriff’s Office’s rescue boat and were taken back to the marina for medical evaluation. The Coast Guard wasn’t able to recover the boat and believes it sank.
