Pacers won’t rush George deal

Team weighing various offers

-

An Indiana Pacers trade involving Paul George being completed before Thursday’s NBA draft doesn’t appear imminent. The Pacers, according to multiple league sources, are considering several trade offers for George.

New team president Kevin Pritchard has engaged in trade talks with teams such as the Houston Rockets, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Washington Wizards and the Los Angeles Clippers also have been interested in acquiring George, according to several media reports.

Those offers, however, have not intrigued the Pacers enough to complete a trade.

George, who has one year left on his contract, informed Pritchard on Saturday through his agent that he intends to leave the Pacers as a free agent after next season.

Porzingis in trade talks: New York Knicks center Kristaps Porzingis is being discussed in trades, two people with knowledge of the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.

One executive described the Knicks’ asking price as “very aggressive” in shopping Porzingis, who’s about to enter his third year in the league. Porzingis averaged 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds last season for the underachieving Knicks.

Another person with knowledge of a potential Porzingis trade characterized the situation as job preservation for the front office. Phil Jackson has been unable to turn the team around since becoming team president in 2014.

The Knicks have the No. 8 pick in Thursday’s draft.

Billups meets with Cavs again: Chauncey Billups met with team owner Dan Gilbert on Wednesday for the second straight day to discuss a front-office position with the Cavaliers.

Gilbert could be close to offering a job to Billups, who is the first person to meet with Gilbert since he parted ways with general manager David Griffin this week when talks about a contract extension broke down.
