Sassy Cow creamery recalls some products

Milk, ice cream may not have been pasteurized

Sassy Cow Creamery, based in Columbus, has recalled a number of its dairy products over concerns about whether they were fully pasteurized.

“During routine inspection of our equipment it was discovered that we could not prove with 100% certainty that every ounce of Sassy Cow products were fully pasteurized,” the company said in a statement on its website.

But creamery officials also said they don’t have “evidence or proof that every ounce of Sassy Cow products were not pasteurized during this time period,” according to the statement.

“We always want to error on the safe side out of care and concern for our customers as well as our peace of mind in the products we produce,” the company said in the statement.

The creamery has issued a voluntary recall on the following products:

Fluid milk. Has sell by/best by dates of June 22-July 13; covers traditional, organic, whole, 2%, 1%, skim, half and half, heavy cream, whole chocolate and 1% chocolate in gallon, half-gallon, quart, pint and half-pint sizes.

Ice Cream. Has best by dates of 10/21/17-1/23/ 18 and 3/21/18-6/23/18 and includes all flavors in 3gallon, 2.5 gallon, halfgallon and quart sizes.

“Our creamery has been working full time to replace all of the products we have issued a recall for as quickly as possible,” according to the statement. “We apologize for any inconvenience as we are refilling all of our store shelves and locations where our products can be found.”
