Rachel nixes six, including Lee, Kenny

‘Bachelorette’ mixes up traditional episode formula

- JUSTIN KIRKLAND

It was quite a week on “The Bachelorette.” Rachel sent home the same number of guys as she has left, and it’s all kind of bonkers.

After the tense exchange in Monday night’s episode, Kenny survives the two-onone — granted, without a rose. Rachel trusts Kenny over Lee and tells him goodbye. But Kenny just can’t let Lee’s nonsense go. He heads back to address Lee one more time, but Kenny’s only losing points because Rachel chose him and that should be enough.

Kenny has to earn a rose. And he does after opening up to Rachel about his vulnerabilities, so we finally have a man who has survived a two-on-one!

Goodbye to two

With complete irreverence for a traditional episode timeline, we have our first rose ceremony. King Josiah and Anthony head home, and Josiah is stunned. There’s always one, y’all.

Eric at the carnival

Eric gets that one-on-one he’s been so adamant about. Eric is excited as they head to the carnival and it seems that maybe their connection is stronger than even Eric thought. When they hit dinner, he throws Rachel for a loop — he’s falling for her, and she’s 100% OK with it. Eric nabs himself a rose.

Men tell all

Dean, Kenny, Bryan, Alex, Matt, Peter and Adam are taken to Denmark to practice being Vikings. It’s a series of games that lead up to Adam and Kenny fighting each other inside the Viking ring for Rachel’s heart, and that’s where the cuts comes from. Both Kenny and Adam get them.

At post-date drinks, the guys are clamoring for Rachel’s attention. But in trying to “keep it 100,” Kenny says he’s not sure where Rachel and he are at. She agrees and Kenny leaves the competition. And then Peter gets the rose because he’s perfect.

Will you, won’t you?

For the final date of the night, Will and Rachel head to Sweden. They meet with an old white couple who ask if they’re married, and it doesn’t feel formulaic at all. Will and Rachel look incredible together, but the conversation is painfully flat. So when they make it to dinner, the chat quickly turns to all the white girls Will has dated, and it doesn’t help things out. It’s enough to put Rachel on edge and ultimately to send him home without a rose.

And on top of all this man carnage, Alex gets nixed for no reason! It’s been a total dude-slaughter this week! Eight guys down, and six left.
