Former Glendale coffee shop to be replaced by Goody Gourmets
Popcorn and candy retailer Goody Gourmets LLC plans to open its office and a third area store at a long-vacant former coffee shop in Glendale.
Goody Gourmets owner Jacqueline Chesser wants to renovate and expand the former Kletzsch Perk, at 6369 N. Green Bay Ave. That building is just across the avenue from Kletzsch Park and south of W. Mill Road.
The 1,100-square-foot building, originally developed as a gas station, would be enlarged to around 2,400 square feet, according to a city report. It would include office space, a commercial kitchen and a store.
The building’s exterior look would be transformed from “the existing service station design to a state-of-the-art commercial office and restaurant design,” the report said. It would have both interior and patio seating for customers.
City community development staff is recommending approval for Chesser’s plans. The Plan Commission is to review the proposal at its Tuesday night meeting.
Chesser launched Goody
Gourmets in 2005, leasing space in a commercial kitchen and selling popcorn and candy through
goodygourmets.com. The popcorn includes unusual flavors such as lemonade, jalapeño and banana pudding.
Chesser opened her
first store, 4425 N. Oakland Ave., Shorewood, in 2006, and a Milwaukee store, at 6913 W. Brown Deer Road, in 2014.
Along with selling boxes of popcorn to individual customers, the company also sells larger buckets to corporate accounts for events or gifts for their customers and employees.
Kletzsch Perk opened in the former gas station in 2002 and closed in 2007.
