Former Bartz’s to be reworked
Space to be divided into four lots in proposal for remodeling store
The former Bartz’s Party store on Wauwatosa’s east side would be redeveloped into a small retail center, under a new proposal pending before city officials.
The 7,800-square-foot building, 6931 W. North Ave., is to be divided into four retail spaces, said developer David Glazer.
Glazer said the redeveloped building, known as East Tosa Centre, already has two planned tenants: Club Pilates, a pilates studio; and Mathnasium, a math tutoring center.
The two remaining spaces would have around 1,100 square feet and 3,000 square feet, he said.
The plans include a complete renovation of the building’s facade, with new windows, said Glazer, a Wauwatosa commercial real estate broker.
Pending city approval, the renovations would begin as soon as possible and be completed this fall, he said.
“It’s going to look like a new building,” Glazer said.
Glazer and his partner, Joe Konicek, of Franklin-based Bridgestone Capital LLC, plan to tap into the continuing redevelopment of W. North Ave. between N. 60th St. and N. Wauwatosa Ave. Several new restaurants and bars have opened there over the past five or so years.
“We think Tosa is such a great area,” Glazer said.
The Bartz Party Store closed earlier this month after decades of doing business in Wauwatosa. The company still operates stores in Greenfield and Menomonee Falls.
The plans for East Tosa Centre are scheduled for review by the Wauwatosa Design Review Board at its Thursday meeting.
