Beltre joins 3,000-hit club.

-

Adrian Beltre had a feeling like none other he has experienced on a baseball field when he saw his three children coming toward him Sunday. Then they kept running to the wall in rightcenter field.

Only after helping unveil a logo commemorating Beltre’s 3,000th career hit did the kids return to hug their father, the 38-year-old Texas Rangers third baseman who had just become the first player from the Dominican Republic, and 31st overall, in the major leagues to do that.

“What happened today after the hit, it was the best moment in my life,” Beltre said.

Beltre reached the milestone with a double in the fourth inning of a 10-6 loss to Baltimore Orioles in Arlington, Texas.

Lucroy traded again: The Colorado Rockies acquired catcher Jonathan Lucroy from the Texas Rangers for a player to be named.

The deal was announced Sunday while the Rockies were playing the second game of a daynight doubleheader in Washington.

Lucroy hit .242 with four home runs and 27 RBIs in 77 games with Texas this year.

The Rangers got Lucroy last year on Aug. 1 — the trade deadline day — from Milwaukee. The 31year-old was a two-time all-star with the Brewers.

Royals obtain Cabrera: Trying to bolster their lineup for a playoff run and beating the trade deadline, the Kansas City Royals got outfielder Melky Cabrera from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

The White Sox sent Cabrera and cash to Kansas City for a pair of Class A pitchers, 22-year-old right-hander A.J. Puckett and 23-year-old lefty Andre Davis. The swap came before Monday afternoon’s deadline for making deals without waivers.

The 32-year-old Cabrera was batting .288 with 13 homers and 56 RBIs for the White Sox. He’s also is tied for the majors’ lead with nine outfield assists.

Slugger May dies: Lee May, an all-star slugger who put up 100-RBI seasons for three different teams, has died. He was 74.

The Cincinnati Reds said Sunday that May died over the weekend.

Known for wagging his bat before taking meaty cuts, May hit 354 homers with 1,244 RBI in 18 years. He drove in more than 100 runs in a season for Cincinnati, Houston and Baltimore. He finished with Kansas City in 1982.
