Mexican Fiesta brings the sights, sounds and foods of Mexico to Maier Festival Park this weekend. Highlights include headliners La Santa Cecilia and Tito El Bambino Friday, the Hotwheelz car and motorcycle show Saturday, and a procession and Mass Sunday morning. The Milwaukee Fringe Festival returns Saturday and Sunday with two days of theater, art, music and dance from more than 25 live acts in and around the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, 929 N. Water St. Participating arts groups include Theatre Gigante, Cooperative Performance Milwaukee, The Battery Factory, Montauk Project, Summit Players Theater, Minneapolis Ballet Dancers and more. The City of Glendale is hosting its first Root Beer Bash in Richard E. Maslowski Community Park, 2200 W. Bender Road, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. (The source of the title beverage: Sprecher Brewing, which has a beer and root beer stand in the new park.) We all get a little batty by the end of summer, which might explain why the Mitchell Park Conservatory, 524 S. Layton Blvd., is steering into the skid by hosting the Wisconsin Bat Festival Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bat experts — and the bats themselves — will be on hand to share insights into the winged creatures, and into making your own bat houses. Admission is free with general admission to the Domes: $7; $5 for seniors 60 and older, students with I.D., people with disabilities, and children ages 6 to 17; free for kids 5 and younger.
