Hamlin edges Logano for Xfinity victory

-

Denny Hamlin passed Joey Logano coming out of the final turn to win the Xfinity Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 on Saturday in Darlington, S.C.

Hamlin won the pole earlier and led 33 laps. But he found himself behind Logano heading into the final turn before sliding around one last time to win his second straight start in NASCAR’s Triple-A series.

Logano led the most laps, 58 of 147, to hold on to second. Kevin Harvick, who won the first two stages, wound up third after leading 54 laps. Erik Jones finished fourth, and William Byron, the first Xfinity regular, rounded out the top five.

NASCAR Cup: Kevin Harvick held off defending champion Martin Truex Jr. to win the pole for the Southern 500 on Sunday in Darlington.

Harvick ran a fast lap of 177.730 in the final round, sweeping all three segments of qualifying. Truex finished with a lap of 177.077 mph.

Matt Kenseth of Cambridge, Wis., will start 11th.

IndyCar: Alexander Rossi captured the pole for Sunday’s Grand Prix at The Glen.

Rossi bested the Fast Six with a track-record time of 1 minute 22.4639 seconds to edge Scott Dixon (1:22.5168) on his final lap around the 3.34-mile road course in Watkins Glen, N.Y.

Dixon, who eclipsed his own track record of 1:22.5259 in the third round of qualifying, edged Josef Newgarden (1:22.5169).

Formula One: Lewis Hamilton claimed his 69th career pole position to break the record held by his childhood idol, Michael Schumacher.

After a 21⁄2-hour rain delay at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Hamilton finished more than a second ahead of Max Verstappen of Red Bull.
