BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Elijah DeVries, Arrowhead: The junior led the Warhawks to victory at West Allis Hale’s Leighton Betz Invitation­al on Friday at Franklin Park. He completed the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes 56.83 seconds, almost 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. His team totaled 46 points, 15 better than second-place Muskego. GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Sami Stieve, Germantown: The Warhawks junior won West Allis Central’s Bulldog Invitation­al on Friday at McCarty Park in 18 minutes 53.48 seconds. That was almost 90 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. She led Germantown to a second-place finish. FOOTBALL Quintin Schoville, East Troy: The sophomore’s monster night was key to the Trojans’ 62-51 victory over Edgerton on Friday. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound running back carried 30 times for 350 yards and touchdowns of 5, 55 and 52 yards. The effort helped East Troy rally from a 10-point deficit after one quarter and improve to 3-0 for the second straight year. GIRLS GOLF Andrea Groendal, New Berlin: The senior won the Woodland Conference’s mini meet at Currie Golf Course on Thursday with an 8-over-par 44 to move to the top of the league’s overall standings. The effort came one week after she tied for second with an 11-over 47 at Pewaukee. Through three meets she has a conference-best scoring average of 48.3, just ahead of teammate Sydney Travers (48.6). BOYS SOCCER Ivan Cuellar, Pius XI: The junior has helped the Popes start the season 4-0-1 by scoring eight goals and four assists in the team's last four games. He scored the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over New Berlin West on Wednesday and scored three times in an 8-0 victory over Milwaukee Lutheran on Monday. GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING Cassie Ketterling, Oak Creek: The senior was part of three first-place finishes to lead the Knights to a third-place showing at the Ike Invitation­al on Aug. 26 at New Berlin Eisenhower. She took the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes 11.40 seconds, won the 100 butterfly in 58.69 and teamed up with sophomore Alison Scharff, senior Rosemary Chitko and sophomore Nadiya Muyzk to win with a time of 1:45.07. Kettlering is a returning state qualifier in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. GIRLS TENNIS Andie Weiss, Homestead: The Highlander­s sophomore lost just one game in four matches at the Brookfield Central Invitation­al on Aug. 25-26. Two of those victories came over returning state qualifiers Ellie Kaji of Madison West and Amy Drame of Nicolet. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Hailey Grocholski, Kettle Moraine: The sophomore middle hitter led the Lasers to a 6-1 mark and third-place finish at the Friendship Tournament in Wisconsin Dells on Aug. 25-26. She led the team in kills (31), hitting percentage (.464) and blocks (14). An honorable mention all-Classic 8 pick last season, Grocholski averaged 1.5 kills and 1.1 blocks per set in 2016.
