Storage Master LLC, a selfstorage company, has bought two buildings near Mitchell International Airport where it will develop its ninth facility.

The company will convert two industrial buildings, totaling 82,000 square feet, at 307 W. Layton Ave. into 1,000 to 1,200 self-storage units.

The New Berlin company bought the 4.5-acre site from T&M Industries LLC for $1.7 million, according to state real estate records posted Wednesday. The first facility, within the site’s building just south of Layton Ave., is scheduled to open in spring 2018.

Diamond Industries Inc., an affiliate of T&M Industries, will continue to use the site’s other building, said Alex Simic, Storage Master owner.

Diamond will lease that building from Storage Master for five years before eventually relocating, Simic said. He said that building would then be converted into 200 to 400 self-storage units.

The surrounding area has strong demographics, and the the site has has excellent visibility with more than 35,000 vehicles driving past each day, Simic said.

Storage Master operates seven self-storage centers in Bay View, Franklin, Milwaukee’s far northwest side, Muskego, New Berlin, Oak Creek and Racine.

The company will open its eighth center this month, at S30 W24720 Sunset Drive, Waukesha.
