Top pick Garrett will miss opener.

Myles Garrett’s NFL debut for the Browns won’t happen for weeks.

The top overall pick in this year’s draft will miss Sunday’s opener against Pittsburgh and possibly a few more games after severely spraining his right ankle during practice. A teammate fell on the back of his leg during a drill Wednesday.

An MRI revealed the 6-foot-4, 275-pound Garrett has a high ankle sprain, an injury that typically takes several weeks to heal. His status will be updated in a “couple” of weeks,” the team said. That means he will sit out against the Steelers and likely the following week at Indianapolis, and perhaps other games.

This is the second time Garrett already has been hurt as a pro, and those setbacks came after he was limited during his junior year at Texas A&M by a badly sprained left ankle.

Reversal of fortunes: A month ago, the Dallas Cowboys figured to be without star running back Ezekiel Elliott for the opener while facing the New York Giants and dynamic receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Now it appears the opposite will be true.

Elliott, the 2016 NFL rushing leader as a rookie, is still facing a six-game suspension over a domestic violence case, but will play Sunday night because of the timing of an appeal that was rejected, and an ongoing court fight to try to overturn the NFL’s decision.

Beckham hasn’t played since spraining his left ankle in a preseason game against Cleveland on Aug. 21, and didn’t practice the early part of game week.

Pryor released: The Browns released safety Calvin Pryor shortly after he was involved in a fight with wide receiver Ricardo Louis.

Coach Hue Jackson did not provide any details of the skirmish, which took place before practice.

“I just made a decision which we thought was best for our football team and we moved on,” Jackson said. “That is it.”

Jackson didn’t think Louis would also be let go.

Jones feels good: All-Pro receiver Julio Jones said he’s 100% healthy with the Atlanta Falcons’ opener at Chicago on Sunday.

Jones had right foot surgery in March and took just eight snaps in one preseason game.

Working in drills full-speed with quarterback Matt Ryan, last year’s NFL MVP, has helped Jones stay comfortable as the Falcons try to return to the Super Bowl for the second straight year. This is Jones’ seventh year playing with Ryan.
