9/11 events to take place
Local firehouses will commemorate those who died in attacks in 2001
Events commemorating the 16th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will be held Monday at five Milwaukee Fire Department stations and Miller Park.
Ceremonies paying tribute to firefighters and others killed in the attacks will take place at 9 a.m. at the following firehouses:
Engine House 2, 755 N. Lovell St.
Engine House 7, 3174 S. Chase Ave.
Engine House 16, 10320 W. Fond du Lac Ave.
Engine House 24, 4927 W. Fiebrantz Ave.
Engine House 33 4515 W. Burnham St.
Ceremonies will include Milwaukee Fire Department Honor Guard personnel, salutes in remembrance of the first tower collapse and readings of the names of the 343 New York City firefighters who lost their lives in the attacks.
The event at Miller Park will begin at 4 p.m. and will include a large American flag display by ladder trucks from the Milwaukee and Wauwatosa fire departments. In addition, there will be a display of 343 helmets outside the stadium at the home plate entrance, and a performance by the Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums.
Milwaukee Fire Department Battalion Chief Christopher Snyder will sing the National Anthem as the Honor Guard presents the colors before the 6:40 p.m. game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Milwaukee Fire Department Deputy Chief Kevin Hafemann will throw out the first pitch, and the helmet and ladder tribute will be on display until just after sunset.
