BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Jordan Janusiak, South Milwaukee:

The defending Woodland Conference champion scored a couple of major meet victories within a sevenday span. On Sept. 2 he won Waukesha South’s Blackshirt Challenge, finishing the 5,000meter course at Minooka Park in 16 minutes 23.5 seconds. That was about 9 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Saturday he claimed the crown at South Milwaukee’s Rocket Challenge at Grant Park. There he finished in 16:10.61, almost 11 seconds ahead of the runnerup.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Erin Sorg, Delavan-Darien:

The senior, who is the two-time defending Southern Lakes champion, won the conference’s relay meet Thursday at Fox River Park in Burlington. She completed the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes 30.98 seconds, which was almost 22 seconds better than the runnerup. The race was Sorg’s second of the season. She won the Palmyra-Eagle Invitation­al Aug. 24 in 19:44.1

FOOTBALL Chimere Dike, Waukesha North:

The 6-foot junior receiver caught six passes for 210 yards and four touchdowns in the team’s 42-35 victory over Waukesha South on Friday. It was North’s first victory of the year. Dike scored touchdowns of 14, 60, 41 and 79 yards. The 41-yard score with 5 minutes 21 seconds left in the third quarter gave North the lead for good. Dike enters Week 5 with 12 catches and 271 yards, a 22.6yard average.

GIRLS GOLF Katie Gerschke, St.Thomas More:

The Cavaliers junior won two Woodland Conference mini meets last week to climb to the top of the league’s standings. Tuesday she shot a 10-over 45 at Grant Park to win by two strokes. Wednesday she shot a 9-over 45 to win at New Berlin Hills by four strokes. The victories dropped her season average 47.2, about 11⁄2 strokes better the league’s second-best performer.

BOYS SOCCER Bopilo Gauthier, Milwaukee Washington:

The Purgolders have started the season 3-0, and Gauthier, a junior, has played a key role in that success. He has scored eight goals in the three

matches. He scored twice Wednesday in Washington’s 4-1 victory over Milwaukee Languages. A week earlier he had a season-high four goals in an 8-1 win over Bay View and opened the year Aug. 28 with two goals in a 3-2 victory over Marshall.

GIRLS SWIMMING Maya Novack, Cedarburg:

The Bulldogs sophomore helped the team win the Shorewood Invite on Sept. 2 by taking four events. She claimed the 50- and 100-yard freestyles with times of 24.47 and 53.30 seconds. She also teamed up with senior Lillie Hosack, junior Erika Remington and freshman Brigid Gwidt to win the 400 free relay in 3 minutes 37.34 seconds and joined with Hosack, freshman Sophia Remington and junior Erika Remington to win the 200 medley relay in 1:48.69.

GIRLS TENNIS Veda Sane, University School:

The junior entered the weekend with an 11-1 record that included a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Cedarburg’s Willow Larson on Tuesday. Sane has victories over a number of Division 1 players and on Aug. 19 scored a three-set victory over Kenosha St. Joseph’s Olivia Czerwonka, who finished fifth at state in Division 2 last year. That match and a loss to Oshkosh West’s Kimmy Steinert were the only three-set matches she’d had this season.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL Lucas Eggers, Kenosha Indian Trail:

The Hawks won their annual grudge match with Kenosha Tremper, 3-2, Wednesday to take early control of the Southeast Conference race. Eggers, a senior right-side hitter, finished with 15 kills, five blocks and posted a .286 hitting percentage. He also passed a 2.2 on a three-point scale and recorded a number of critical points.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Brianna Merkel, Franklin:

The junior setter/right-side hitter led the Sabers to a 4-1 record and Silver Division championsh­ip at the New Berlin West Invitation­al Sept. 2 and then helped the team defeat Racine Case, 3-0, Tuesday to improve to 2-0 in the Southeast Conference. Merkel finished the day at New Berlin with 19 kills, 20 digs and 53 assists and nine aces. She posted eight kills and 16 assists against Case.
