Brewers’ 2018 schedule released

- TOM HAUDRICOURT

The Milwaukee Brewers will begin their 2018 season with a three-game series in San Diego and play interleague games against their opposite number, the Central Division, in the American League.

The ‘18 schedule, which was released Tuesday, marks the first time the Brewers will open on the road since 2011, when they began in San Francisco. They have never opened a season in San Diego.

Following that three-game series against the Padres from March 29-31 and an off day, the Brewers will open their home season at Miller Park on Monday, April 2, against St. Louis at 1:10 p.m.

That opening home stand features three games against the Cardinals and a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

The Brewers’ interleague schedule includes games against each AL Central team, including home-and-away series against Cleveland, Kansas City and Minnesota. The Brewers and Twins will play separate three-game series against each other, including July 2-4 at Miller Park, instead of the four-consecutive-games format of recent seasons.

The first interleague series will consist of two games in Kansas City from April 24-25. The Brewers host the defending AL champion Indians from May 8-9, and play in Cleveland from June 5-6. The Brewers play the Chicago White Sox on the road from June 1-3.

The longest home stand consists of 10 games against Arizona, the New York Mets and St. Louis from May 21-30. That home stand is preceded by the longest trip of the season, a 10-game, 11-day journey to Colorado, Arizona and Minnesota from May 10-20.

For those looking at the holiday schedule, the Brewers are home on Father’s Day, June 17, against Philadephia; the Fourth of July against Minnesota; and Labor Day, Sept. 3, against the Cubs. The latter two are day games at 3:10 p.m. and 1:10 p.m, respectively.

The Brewers close the season at home with an interleague series against Detroit from Sept. 28-30.

The majority of weekday night games at Miller Park will start at 7:10 p.m., with the exception of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night games in April, May and from Sept. 17-19, which will begin at 6:40 p.m. All game dates and times are subject to change, and road game times will be announced at a later date.
