Demolition set for Sears at Bayshore
Demolition will begin soon on the former Sears at Bayshore Town Center in Glendale, with plans to eventually develop a Nordstrom Rack and other new buildings.
Olshan Properties, which operates Bayshore, has applied for a city demolition permit, Glendale Mayor Bryan Kennedy said Tuesday.
New York-based Olshan also has set up a construction fence around the former Sears building, at Bayshore’s northern end.
“Demolition is scheduled to begin soon, and we are excited to mark this key milestone in the future development of our center,” Kenneth Marshall, Olshan’s head of retail, said in a statement.
Marshall didn’t immediately respond to a request for more information.
Olshan hasn’t yet filed redevelopment plans for Bayshore’s northern end, Kennedy said.
Seattle-based Nordstrom Inc. in June announced plans to open its discount wing, Nordstrom Rack, at Bayshore in fall 2018. The 26,800-square-foot store would help anchor Bayshore’s redeveloped northern end.
Total Wine & More, T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods also have been mentioned by commercial real estate sources as other prospective tenants in the redeveloped area.
Richard Maslowski, then Glendale city administrator, said in 2016 that post-Sears plans for Bayshore would include construction of new buildings with retail on the first floor and apartments above, along with separate townhouse apartments and a public plaza.
The 117,000-square-foot Sears store closed in December 2014. Sears’ lease ended in December 2016.
