Severino hit by line drive in BP

-

New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino was hit in the back of the left shoulder by a line drive while the Toronto Blue Jays were taking batting practice.

The ace right-hander didn’t appear to suffer a serious injury in the accident Saturday.

Severino is expected to start the American League wild-card game should the Yankees play in that matchup. He is 13-6 with a 3.03 ERA overall and is 8-2 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts since the allstar break.

Severino was struck while playing catch in right field. He went down in pain and then resumed throwing. He later left the field to apply an ice pack.

Last month, Yankees rookie left-hander Jordan

Montgomery was hit in the head by a ball during batting practice before a game at Yankee Stadium, leaving him bleeding from a cut on his ear. Montgomery started the following night against the Boston Red Sox. Collins may retire:

Mets general manager

Sandy Alderson said he has had “very few” conversations with manager

Terry Collins regarding Collins’ expiring contract.

Collins is not expected to return as the team’s manager in 2018, and a source speculated that the 68-year-old could retire after the season.

“That situation is and will be resolved very shortly after the end of the season,” Alderson said. “Beyond that, we’re just not getting into a public conversation about it.”

Collins is not thinking about whether this will be his last home stand managing the Mets.

“I got enough on my plate trying to figure out this pitching, trying to figure out getting guys playing time,” said Collins, who has managed the most games in franchise history. Snitker’s future in question: Atlanta Braves

manager Brian Snitker still doesn’t know if he will return next year after meeting Saturday with front office executives. General manager John

Coppollela and president of baseball operations

John Hart spoke with Snitker, 61, a few hours before Atlanta played Philadelphia, but gave no indication of a timetable or which way the team is leaning.

“John Hart and I are going to talk things through,” Coppollela said.

Coppollela and Snitker, speaking separately with reporters, both described the meeting as “upbeat and positive.”

Snitker is 128-148 since replacing Fredi Gonzalez on an interim basis May 17, 2016.

Marlins firings: Jeff Conine, who goes by the nickname Mr. Marlin, is part of the purge of Miami Marlins executives before the sale of the team to

Derek Jeter ’s investment group.

Conine said Saturday he was told he won’t be retained. He helped the Marlins win two World Series and has been a special assistant to the president since 2008.

Also being let go are Hall of Famers Andre

Dawson and Tony Perez, who had the same title as Conine, and former manager Jack McKeon, who has been special assistant to the owner since 2005.
