Montgomery out with broken ribs; Adams carted off
GREEN BAY - Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery exited in the first quarter of Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bears with a chest injury and did not return.
Montgomery suffered broken ribs on the first play from scrimmage, a source said, and remained on the field for a handful of additional snaps before exiting. He finished with five carries for 28 yards. The news was first reported by NFL Network.
Wide receiver Davante Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher late in the third quarter after a hellacious hit over the middle.
Adams was fighting for extra yardage when inside linebacker Danny Trevathan put his helmet through Adams’ facemask. The blow detached Adams’ mouthpiece from his helmet. Fellow receiver Jordy Nelson immediately waved for help from the sideline.
About a dozen medical staffers huddled around Adams as he was loaded onto a stretcher. Adams gave a thumbs up as he was wheeled off the field.
The Packers said Adams was taken to a local hospital where he is being evaluated for a head and neck injury, plus a concussion. He had movement in all his extremities.
Without Montgomery, the Packers were left with rookies Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones as the only tailbacks on the 46-man active roster.
Williams dropped out of the game in the second quarter with a knee injury, giving way to Jones for the first action of his NFL career. Jones scored on a 2-yard carry.
