A photo of a suspect wanted for questioning in the I-43 shooting that injured a motorist Friday was released by Milwaukee County sheriff’s officials Sunday.

Detectives are searching for Jonathan D. Perez-Perez, 24, of Milwaukee in connection with the I-43 shooting. Perez-Perez is 5foot-10 and weighs 150 pounds. The booking photo released Sunday was taken in February 2012.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, deputies were sent to southbound I-43 between W. Hampton Ave. and W. Capitol Drive because of a man suffering nonlife-threatening gunshot wounds. The southbound freeway was shut down between Silver Spring Drive and North Ave. for 31⁄2 hours during the afternoon work commute while deputies looked for evidence.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Perez-Perez should contact the Sheriff’s Office, (414) 278-4788.

After two shootings on I-43 in less than a week, Acting Milwaukee County Sheriff Richard Schmidt on Saturday announced he was posting “high-visibility, saturation patrols” in the area.

“Our freeway system is not for outlaw behavior!” Schmidt said in a news release offering the first public accounts of the incidents.

On Monday, a shooting incident caused a crash and shutdown of northbound I-43 near Walnut St. for about four hours.
