Homestead cruises to sectional title victory

Homestead made it a clean sweep Wednesday.

The Highlander­s girls tennis team, this year’s top-ranked team by the Wisconsin High School Tennis Coaches Associatio­n and last year’s Division 1 state champion, won every flight at the Cedarburg Sectional to win the sectional title easily and advance to the state meet for the second straight year.

Homestead will play in the state team tournament Oct. 20-21 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. The Highlander­s' individual automatic qualifiers – sophomores Andie Weise and Natalie Yang and the doubles teams of seniors Frankie La Londe and Alyssa Boyer and sophomores Sasha Shapsis and Bridget Brown – will play at the individual state tournament, which will be held Oct. 12-14 at

Nielsen.

The top four finishers in No. 1 singles and doubles and the top finisher in No. 2 singles and doubles qualified for the state meet. Nicolet Sectional:

Amy Drame and Angela Sendik won titles at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and the doubles team of juniors Emma Koppa and Annabelle Crowley automatica­lly qualified for individual state They all helped Nicolet win the sectional

title. The Knights No. 3 doubles team of senior Daphne Buening and Miah Bohlen also won their flight. DIVISION 2

Whitewater Sectional: Junior Olivia Czerwonka won at No. 1 singles to lead Kenosha St. Joseph to the sectional title.

Kohler Sectional: Junior Veda Zane won at No. 1 singles to lead a sweep of singles titles for University School. The Wildcats also won the team title.
