Beer pairing matches wits with Urban Harvest wheats

Here’s what you have to look forward to this week, including a bonus glance into the future.

Friday: Urban Harvest Brewing, 1024 S. 5th St., presents Hellcat Amazons comedy from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the theater. Grab a beer and a show. Tickets are $10 at brownpaper tickets.com.

Saturday: The Milwaukee Cider and Nano Beer Fest opens at 1 p.m. at the Schlitz Park Complex, 1543 N. 2nd St. I’ll be there along with ticket holders sampling from more than 40 ciders and small-batch brews. Tickets are $65 for VIPs, which allows for noon admission, and $45 for general admission, according to Eventbrite.com.

Saturday: D14, 2273 S. Howell Ave., throws a party to celebrate its third anniversar­y, including a special release of an anniversar­y Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout; rerelease of the 2015 Chardonnay Barrel Aged Bier de Chard (cellared since the first-anniversar­y party); and three other re-releases, along with live music. Saturday: Volunteer with Hunger Task Force to harvest, plant and clean up at the task force’s farm, 9000 S. 68th St., Franklin, as part of Surly Gives a Damn (SGAD) from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sign up at surlybrewi­ng.com.

Saturday: Top Note Tonics and Bublr Bikes join Good City Brewing to host the first Radler Ride. Bike along to taste variations on the classic beer mixer from Good City, Black Husky, Draft & Vessel, Ale Asylum Riverhouse, Enlightene­d and MobCraft. The ride is free for participan­ts 21 or older. Oct. 9: Company Brewing hosts the Milwaukee Record Local Coverage draft event from 5 to 7 p.m. where they’ll announce which acts will be part of Local

Coverage 2018 and release Re-Porter. Milwaukee Record and Company Brewing created a brew based Company’s Night Rye’d Porter, but with cinnamon, cocoa nibs, medium roast coffee, vanilla beans and three types of chiles. One dollar from each pint sold will be donated to the Milwaukee Women’s Center.

Oct. 11-15: The anniversar­y party is already in motion, but Milwaukee Brewing Co., 613 S. 2nd St., and Milwaukee Ale House, 233 N. Water St., put it in high gear through Oct. 15 with brew recipes from 1997 and more. See mkebrewing.com/20.

Save the date: Lakefront Brewery, 1872 N. Commerce Ave., adds to the Black Friday goody bag with a second release. As they have in the past, the Black Friday release features this year’s Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels but includes a Vintage Reserve Imperial Stout created from 2014-’16 Imperial Stouts. Also coming: Third Space Brewing, 1505 W. St. Paul Ave., is aging its Liquid Layers Barleywine in four different barrels — rye, bourbon, rum and port wine. It will be available on Nov. 24, and patrons will be able to compare this year’s vintage against the original 2016 Barleywine.
