BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Gustavo Gordillo, Lake Geneva Badger: The senior won Burlington’s Chocolate City Invitation­al on Sept. 30 to lead his team to a second-place finish in the 12-team event. Gordillo completed the 5,000-meter course at Burlington High School in 16 minutes, 38.43 seconds, about 27 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Madison Tyler, Kenosha Indian Trail: The senior has scored a handful of victories this season, most recently the Westosha Central Falcon Invite on Saturday. She completed the 5,000-meter course at Fox River Park in 19 minutes, 24.6 seconds, almost 20 seconds ahead of the meet’s No. 2 runner. Tyler added that victory to first-place finishes at Kenosha County Championsh­ip on Sept. 28 and Ladish Invitation­al on Sept. 7. FOOTBALL Joe Garcia, Racine Horlick: The senior running back’s 130 yards and two touchdowns in 20 carries against Franklin on Friday are modest compared to some of his other efforts this season, but his play helped the Rebels knock off the area’s top-ranked team, 21-7. He enters Week 9 with 1,263

yards and 20 touchdowns in 106 carries. GIRLS GOLF

Courtney Matschke, Franklin: The Sabers senior posted her third straight victory with a sectional win that led the Sabers to the state tournament for the second time in three seasons. Matschke finished with a 3-over-par 74 at Wanaki to finished two strokes ahead of the second-place finisher. Matschke also won the regional meet with a 4-over 76 at Muskego Lakes and took the Southeast Conference title with a 3-over 75 at Evergreen. BOYS SOCCER Jackson Dryden, Whitefish Bay: The senior forward helped the Blue Dukes post dominant victories at the Go4theGoal Classic in Quincy, Ill. Sept. 28 and 29 by recording five goals in victories over Quincy, Ill., and Bradley Bouronaiss. GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING McKenzie Sanchez, Racine Case: The junior won the diving competitio­n at the Cedarburg Invitation­al on Sept. 30 with a state-best score of 490.75 points. That score beat a field that included Cedarburg’s Adriana Avila, who is ranked second in Division 1, and Divine Savior Holy Angels Kelley Korn-

feld, who is ranked fifth. GIRLS TENNIS Olivia Czerwonka, Kenosha St. Joseph:

The Lancers junior closed the regular season with a three-set victory over University School standout Veda Sane and then won five straight matches in straight sets at the sectional meet. That run culminated with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Madison Edgewood freshman Baluck Deang in the sectional final. Czerwonka enters the state meet with a 30-1 record and the No. 1 seed in Division 2. BOYS VOLLEYBALL Conor Ward, Marquette: The Hilltopper­s setter helped his team score a 19-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-15 victory over Germantown in a non-conference showdown of state-ranked teams. Ward finished with 36 assists for top-ranked Marquette. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Ariana Miller, Kettle Moraine Lutheran:

The Chargers senior middle blocker led her team to a victory at the Neenah Invitation­al on Sept. 30 that propelled the team to the state’s top ranking in the Division 2 state poll. She finished the tournament with 43 kills and 10 blocks and a .434 hitting percentage.
