Pick ’n Save stores to get LED lights
The Milwaukee-based Roundy’s division of The Kroger Co. said Tuesday it is retrofitting all of its Wisconsin Pick ’n Save and Metro Market stores with environmentally conscious lighting.
Roundy’s operates 108 stores in Wisconsin and holds about one-third of the grocery market share in the state.
Roundy’s said in a statement that new LED track lighting will offer a 43% reduction in power consumption in the produce, floral and liquor departments; new LED overhead lighting throughout shopping aisles, in the back room and in the service departments is expected to bring a 52% reduction in power consumption in those areas; and new LED lighting in refrigerated display cases, walk-in coolers and freezers is expected to reduce their power consumption by 35%.
“Roundy’s recently remodeled Hales Corners store currently features the updated, environmentally conscious lighting,” the company said in a statement.
“All additional Pick ’n Save and Metro Market stores in the state will be retrofitted with the 100% LED lighting with planned completion by summer of 2018,” according to the statement.
The lighting upgrades are in addition to other green measures the stores already have in place, including occupancy sensors in walk-in coolers and frozen food doors, high-efficiency operating motors for refrigerated cases, reclamation of waste heat from refrigeration systems to heat water and rooftop air conditioning units that feature an economizing mode.
