Delafield businessman Kevin Nicholson announced Tuesday that he raised more than $400,000 in the third quarter for his U.S. Senate campaign.

Nicholson and state Sen. Leah Vukmir of Brookfield are seeking the Republican nomination to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin next year.

Last week, Vukmir announced her campaign raised $250,000 during the third quarter. She entered the race on Sept. 7.

On Tuesday, the Associated Press reported that Alex Walker, the younger son of Gov. Scott Walker, has joined Vukmir’s campaign as deputy political director.

The governor, who faces re-election next year, has not made an endorsement in the Senate race.

The Nicholson campaign said it received 1,850 donations from July through September. More than 1,500 of the donations were for $100 or less. And only one donation came from a political action committee.

“When I served in the United States Marine Corps, it was an honor and a privilege to serve alongside Marines from all walks of life, from all over our nation,” Nicholson said in a statement. “Today, it is an honor and a privilege to have people from all walks of life, from all over Wisconsin and our nation, who are willing to support our campaign as we work to take back Washington from career politicians.”

Prominent donors to the Nicholson campaign include Rebekah Mercer, Foster Friess, Sam Zell and Howard Rich.

Previously, Richard Uihlein, the Uline Co. co-founder, had given $3.5 million to a super PAC that has backed Nicholson.

The campaign also added Wisconsin finance co-chairs Tom and Ginee Burke, Jack and Patti McKeithan, Fred and Mary Mohs and Mick Neshek.
