You wouldn’t recognize the former auto mechanics shop at 52nd and Silver Spring, with its new siding and large windows. That’s where the new House of Corned Beef is scheduled to debut Wednesday, 10 blocks from its current location.

It will open at 5201 W. Silver Spring Drive, after closing on Sunday night at 6200 W. Silver Spring Drive, where it opened in 2010.

The new location gives the restaurant a bigger kitchen and proximity to potential customers at the Army Reserve base across the street in what owner Wajeeh Alturkman called a quieter neighborhood.

The move also makes him the owner of the building instead of a renter. “I wanted to have my own place,” Alturkman said, “where people feel comfortable.”

The dining area is smaller, with a counter and a couple of tables that provide 14 seats, but much of the restaurant’s business is in takeout, Alturkman said.

The menu will stay the same for now: corned beef sandwiches (starting at $9.69) plus sandwiches including pastrami, catfish, perch, chicken, turkey, Philly cheese steak and gyros.

Also on the menu are chicken wings (starting at $3.99 for four pieces), fried chicken (from $7.99 for four pieces), fried fish and shrimp (starting at $7.99 for fish, $13.99 for shrimp), pizzas (from $14.99) and burgers and sausages (from $2.99 for a hot dog, $4.99 for a singlepatty burger).

The phone number remains the same, (414) 4614292. Hours will be 10 a.m. to midnight Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
