League expected to invite Kaepernick to meeting

-

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart says the league expects Colin Kaepernick to be invited to the next meeting between owners and players to discuss social justice initiatives.

Lockhart adds that the meeting probably will take place next week.

The players’ union and its members decide who attends such gatherings; the league and players met last week in New York in the wake of backlash concerning player demonstrations during the national anthem. Kaepernick, who began kneeling during the national anthem before the 2016 season and currently is out of the NFL, did not attend that meeting.

“I don’t have any confirmation that he is planning to attend,” Lockhart said.

The NFL Players Association also did not have any such confirmation. Concussion ailing Garrett: Myles Garrett might be limited to sightseeing at Big Ben or Buckingham Palace this weekend.

Cleveland’s dazzling rookie defensive end could miss Sunday’s game in London against the Minnesota Vikings after being placed in concussion protocol.

The top overall pick in this year’s draft arrived at the team’s facility with concussion-like symptoms on Tuesday — two days after a loss to Tennessee.

Steelers bench Bryant: The Pittsburgh Steelers have no plans to trade

Martavis Bryant. They also apparently don’t have any plans to play him either. At least not in Detroit.

Bryant indicated he’ll be inactive when the first-place Steelers visit the Lions on Sunday night, the fallout from a social media outburst in which the wide receiver made it clear he’s unhappy with his role in the offense.

Passionately defiant at times, Bryant insisted he meant no ill will when he suggested he was better than rookie teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster during an Instagram comment shortly after Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati on Sunday.

Bears acquire receiver: A source with knowledge of the deal says the Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to trade receiver Dontrelle Inman to the Chicago Bears for a seventh-round pick.

Inman has spent four seasons with the Chargers, catching 107 passes for 1,463 yards and seven touchdowns.

This season he was set back by a May sports hernia surgery. Lions extend Prater: Kicker Matt Prater signed a three-year extension on Wednesday that will keep him with the Detroit Lions through the 2020 season. Prater said it’s a relief to get the deal done because the security allows him to continue to call Detroit home.
